Portrait and Still Life in pastel
- a 6-day workshop with Cuong Nguyen -

Atelier Nadaï is delighted to receive internationally renowned artist Cuong Nguyen who will come and teach a 6-day Portrait and Still Life in pastel workshop.  Cuong will teach you how to create more realistic portrait and still life in pastel pencil using his distinctive yet easy-to-follow technique.

Overview
During this workshop Cuong will demonstrate his own techniques to draw from a photograph using soft pastels and pastel pencils.  Students will learn to use an approach that helps them see the big shapes first and then go into details towards the end of the course.

These workshops are designed to create a relaxed, informative, yet focused working environment for all skill levels. The core of the lesson will be based on drawing, values, edges, composition and creating life-like skin tone color. Students will learn to use an approach that helps them see the big shapes first, and then go into details towards the end of the session. This is a great opportunity for you to discover your own passion for drawing, or just take your existing skills to the next level. This is a small class with individualized instruction, so space is limited.

3-day Still Life in pastel
First part of this 6-day workshop will be on creating a realistic Still Life in pastel.  The first day of the workshop will be an orientation to all the materials involved and a demonstration of the process of painting the objects.  Students will do some exercises on how to apply pastels on sanded paper to create a realistic still-life.

The remainder of the three-day workshop will continue with instruction on the proportions of the subjects from basic line to more advanced study.  From there, we will focus on developing a likeness from the photographic reference by learning to interpret what we see – simplifying and focusing on basic shapes and forms as described by masses of colors, plus light and shadow.  Demonstrations and individual attention will be emphasized, enabling each student to produce a finished drawing by workshop completion.
