An example of folded screen painted in the Rinpa style

Master Class - NIHONGA - Japanese Pictorial Art

Content of the course :

During this 5-day workshop she will be showing you how to paint a decorative panel representing the imagery and techniques used on folding screens.  Emphasis will be on painting a decor in the style of the Rimpa School, one of the major historial schools of Japanese painting.  Used in wall hangings, folding screens, ceramics and laquer, Rimpa School also greatly influenced the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements.  It also influenced symbolist painters like Gustav Klimt, impressionists like Manet and Monet, and post-impressionists like Whistler.

Japanese aesthetics continues to inspire artists and designers throughout the ages.
A beautiful Nihonga panel will be a great addition to your portfolio.

We wouldn’t be able to study Japanese art without becoming much happier and more cheerful...
it makes us return to nature, despite our education and our work in a world of convention...
